Weekly Farm Stand Reopens at St. Joseph Downtown Campus
After a brief hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Blue Mountain Academy Farm Stand has reopened at St. Joseph’s Downtown Campus.
Open with modified hours of operation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays, the year-round stand is seasonally located outside on the corner of Walnut and Reed Streets instead of in its traditional indoor location on the first floor.
“After a brief closure, we have reopened across from the Reed Street security entrance to campus. Come winter, we will be back indoors,” said Lisa Weaver, healthy community program associate for Penn State Berks and St. Joseph. “We require all customers to wear masks and ask that they don’t touch the produce. The vendor will bag it for them.”
Visitors to the farm stand will receive $4 in Berks Farm Bucks, a nutrition incentive program intended to help make healthy food affordable.
“We partner with The Food Trust, which offers youth and adult nutrition education,” Weaver said. “During COVID, their programming is offered via an online learning hub. By watching their videos, people can receive an additional $4 of Farm Bucks to spend.”
In addition to farm bucks, acceptable payment methods include cash, check, credit, SNAP, WIC and Senior Farmers Market Checks.
