Healthcare decision makers from regional businesses learn about new insurance product
Businesses from the region were represented at the Bern campus Thursday at a meeting to introduce a new insurance product developed exclusively for Penn State Health affiliates. The product is a cost-friendly alternative that emphasizes access to top clinical providers, like St. Joseph, who also excel at offering an outstanding patient experience.
Staff and physicians from Penn State Health St. Joseph and Highmark Blue Shield shared the details of the plan, called Alliance Flex Blue, and detailed how it connects quality care to coverage.
Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Guy Piegari also gave an overview of the innovations achieved by he and his colleagues at Berks Cardiologists working in conjunction with the Heart Institute. He said the team is involved in leading-edge clinical trials for a variety of treatments and devices and that their success “has and will continue to shape the delivery of cardiovascular care in our region and beyond.”
In his welcome, President and CEO John Morahan said as “one of Berks County’s 10 largest employers we understand the reason you are here–because we share the same challenge. How can you continue to offer health insurance products to your employees and their dependents for an affordable price?”
With that Highmark Regional Vice President Kelly S. Lieblein introduced the specifics of Alliance Flex Blue and noted the importance of patient centered medical home to its success.
“This new product provides patient-centered care which focuses on coordinated health and wellness services, manages chronic conditions, is accountable and responsive to patients throughout the course of treatment and offers cost savings when using those providers,” she explained.
She also noted that the new product is made possible because of the efforts of Penn State Health St. Joseph to transform itself for the new economics of healthcare. She said that St. Joseph along with Penn State Hershey and Pinnacle Health are providing care that offers more value not just in terms of lower cost, but in delivering higher quality and a better patient experience.
Morahan said Penn State Health “has been transforming ourselves in many ways and a major focus of this effort is to partner with the business community by providing quality care equal to, or, in most instances, better than other providers. Our staff and affiliated physicians and providers have worked diligently to ensure that when your employees and their dependents receive their care from Penn State Health St. Joseph you’re getting excellent, independently-proven quality care at a much lesser cost than other providers in the market.”
He concluded by saying that “achieving quality clinical outcomes for all of our patients-who are your employees and their dependents-is imperative. Achieving quality while also delivering financial savings to your organization the bottom line.”
