Crucifix Blessing Highlights St. Joseph Ministry
Deacon Tom Devaney blessed the crucifixes in St. Joseph’s new COVID testing sheds.
On April 27, Deacon Tom Devaney, director of spiritual care for Penn State Health St. Joseph, blessed the crucifixes that Penn State Health St. Joseph installed in its COVID-19 testing sheds on the Bern Township campus.
Requested by staff who work in the sheds, the crucifixes are a reminder of St. Joseph’s ministry to care for the whole person with reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence. The blessing is designed to celebrate those values with employees and ask for God’s continued help in our health care mission, according to Devaney.
“With each shed I went to, I discovered how important the crucifixes are to the staff,” he says. “They see in the crucifix a visual sign reminding them of our mission to provide compassionate care and a source of support during this unusual time in our history.”
